What Happens to the Calls You Miss, and What an AI Receptionist Actually Does

Most owners never see the calls they lose. There is no angry email and no bad review: the phone rings while you are on a ladder, under a sink or behind the counter, the caller hears voicemail, and they call the next business on the list.

Measure your own leak first

Before you buy anything, count. Open your phone's call log for the last 30 days and look for three things:

Multiply the calls that never came back by how often a caller usually becomes a customer, then by that value. That number is your real cost of voicemail. Only your own numbers matter here: every business is different.

What an AI receptionist does on a call

A good one is not a phone tree. It talks the way a calm, well-trained front desk would:

What it should never do

Guess. It should never invent a price, promise a time you don't have, or give legal, medical or financial advice. When it doesn't know, it should say someone will follow up and take the details. It shouldn't take card numbers over the phone either. And when a caller asks for a person, they should get one.

You keep your number

You don't need a new phone system. You forward your calls to the assistant: all of them, only after hours, or only the ones you don't answer. If your business number is your cell, forwarding just the unanswered calls means your phone still rings first and the assistant only steps in when you can't pick up.

Is it right for you?

It pays off fastest when calls are how customers book or buy, when you're often too busy to answer, and when one lost customer costs real money. If your phone rarely rings, fix your marketing first; an assistant can't answer calls that never come.
